Accomodation Guide

Jogjakarta or just Jogja (JOGH-jah) — is a major tourist destination in Indonesia. It's the capital city of Yogyakarta Special Region which is in the southern part of the Central Java province, Indonesia. Yogyakarta is its soul. Central to the island’s artistic and intellectual heritage.
Jogjakarta is most liveable and lovable city, with countless hotels offering the best value in Java across all price ranges. Its restaurants are tasty and there are cultural attractions everywhere you look within the city and on the outskirts, where you'll find Indonesia’s most important archaeological sites, Borobudur and Prambanan.

The guide will cover everything from Yogyakarta tours, places to visit in Yogyakarta, transport in the city and Yogyakarta hotels.

Yogyakarta Transport

There are two ways to get around Yogyakarta. For budget travellers I would recommend either renting a motorbike or learning to use the Trasn Yogya. Both methods are convenient and can get you easily around the city. Families or people who want convenience should consider a car rental. Find out more about both options below.

  1. Public Transport

  2. Car Rental
Discover Your Indonesia works with a limited number of experienced independent drivers in Yogyakarta. We are selective about the drivers we work with. We partner with drivers who can speak English, know the nice restaurants and under-explored tourist destinations and go that little bit extra. As a result our car rental service is in high demand with referrals and repeat customers, which means we often have to turn down potential clients.

While we work with a limited number of drivers we have a large range of vehicles available. The most popular Yogyakarta car rentals are Avanza and Inova and the standard car rental is for 12 hours. If a driver is available we can help you arrange your itinerary. For more information about the car rental service and the cars available check the table below. To find out if we have a driver available on your travel date press the ‘book now’ button. We will update you regarding availability..

Yogyakarta Hotels

There are two main tourism areas in Yogyakarta. One area is around Jalan Prawirotaman and the second is Jalan Malioboro. Personally I prefer Jalan Prawirotaman as there are a large number of bars and restaurants that you can visit in the area. There are hotel options for all budgets. You can find my recommendation for the best hotel to suit your budget below:

Luxury Hotel – The Phoenix Hotel
Mid Range Hotel – Gallery Prawirotaman
Budget Hotel – Budget Hotel Listing Yogyakarta
